Ad Fiesta Vol. 2 - Cannes Edition🌓

Welcome to AdFiesta! šŸŽ‰

We’re glad you’ve joined the party! Every week, we bring you the best new campaigns and latest news from around the advertising industry.

Over the past week, advertising professionals from 97 countries converged on the Croisette for the 72nd annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. In this special edition of AdFiesta, we’ll be diving deep into festival highlights and awards, so let’s get started! šŸ†

šŸŽ‰ Ads of the Week

Every week I scour the internet to find the greatest new ads from around the world. In other words: I watched a lot of really bad ads so you don’t have to.

While searching for the best ads of the week, two automotive commercials stood above the rest, both for their quirkiness and unique takes on a normally stale category. First, a quintet of singers launch into a catchy song inside an Audi. And second, the gas pedal of a Citroƫn turns other cars into bursts of confetti.

ā€œLight, as you like itā€ / Audi

Agency: BBH London

Production: Biscuit

Directed by Glue Society

ā€œWanna Play?ā€ / CitroĆ«n

Agency: BETC Paris

Production: SOLDATS

Directed by Torben Kjelstrup

šŸ† Cannes Coverage

Of the 26,900 entries submitted to Cannes this year, 827 took home a Lion. That means around 3% of entires were awarded Gold, Silver, Bronze, or a coveted Grand Prix. Notable Grand Prix winners included:

  • Glass: The Lion for Change and Creative Strategy

  • Dan Wieden Titanium, Direct, and Creative Business Transformation

  • Sustainable Development Goals Lion

  • Grand Prix for Good & Lions Health and United Nations Grand Prix for Good

  • Design & Digital Craft

Among my personal favorites was ā€œLucky Yatraā€, a campaign for Indian Railways. To both crack down on fare evasion and increase lottery ticket sales, FCB India turned every train ticket into a lottery ticket. Check out all of this year’s winners at lovethework.com.
